Job Description: System Administrator
Overview

The System Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and enable staff to effectively perform their work.

Key Responsibilities

System Management
Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
Monitor and maintain server hardware, software, and operating systems to ensure maximum uptime.
Perform regular system monitoring, verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
Review system and application logs, and verify the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Network Management
Configure and manage network devices and services, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless access points.
Ensure network security through appropriate configurations, monitoring, and maintenance.
Security Management
Implement and maintain security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Conduct security audits and maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Manage user access and permissions in accordance with security best practices.
Backup and Recovery
Develop, implement, and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
Ensure data integrity and availability by performing regular backups and restoring data as needed.
Troubleshooting and Support
Provide support for server and network issues, resolving hardware and software problems.
Respond to and resolve help desk requests in a timely manner.
Assist in the development and maintenance of documentation for system configurations, procedures, and policies.
Upgrades and Maintenance
Plan and implement system upgrades, including hardware, operating systems, and applications.
Schedule and perform regular maintenance, updates, and patches to ensure systems are up to date.
Project Management
Participate in technical research and development to enable continuous innovation within the infrastructure.
Manage and coordinate IT projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgets.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.
Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or CompTIA Network+.
Skills

Strong knowledge of systems and network administration.
Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
Proficiency in managing Windows and Linux environments.
Familiarity with various cloud services and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Information

Work Environment: This role typically operates in an office environment but may require occasional travel to data centers or other locations.
Physical Demands: The position may involve lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
Work Hours: May require working outside regular business hours to perform maintenance or address critical issues.
